P - Life of Sergei Parajanov
Parajanov was born on 9 January 1924 in Tbilisi, to an Armenian family. In 1973 he was arrested and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. In 1977 the Soviet Court was forced to change its decision and Sergei was released. However he was forbidden to work as a film director. In 1982 he was unjustly accused of a criminal offence and kept in pre-trial imprisonment for 11 months. In court he was declared not guilty. After his release from prison he made the films "Legend of Suram Fortress", "Arabesques on the Pirosmani Theme" and "Ashik-Kerib". Nearly 200 scripts by Parajanov have never been turned into films. Sergei died on 20 July 1990 in Erevan.
When you, the traveller, leave Erevan make sure you pass by Achpat even if it is not on your route - this is where Parajanov filmed "Sajat-Nova" ("The Colour of the Pomegranates"). In the chill of the monastery, a flock is timidly entering through the open door of the thousand-year-old house of God, as if to pray. We did not see it in real life. It is an episode from "Sajat-Nova".
